...solidarity is not dead, there is still some sense of humanity left. So I wholeheartedly sympathize with you and I am proud to call you my favorites and to be by your side today and every step of the road that is to come.
Greta Thunberg was present at the mobilization that took place in Genoa in the framework of the day of general strike in Italy against the militaristic rearmament and the adjustment budget of Meloni and in solidarity with the Palestinian people. Thunberg was with Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur for the Palestinian territories, and Thiago Avila of the Global Sumud Flotilla. There they participated in the march in solidarity with Palestine.
This Friday Italy experienced a day of general strike called by grassroots unions and student, political and social organizations against Meloni's war budget and in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
One of the most important mobilizations took place in Genoa from where two months ago the port workers shouted to the world "if they touch the Flotilla to Gaza we stop the ports," and they did so on September 22 when Israel intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla and then on October 3 in a general strike in support of Palestine.
This Friday in Genoa were present in Genoa Greta Thunberg, Francesca Albanese and Thiago Avilla, a member of the Global Sumud Flotilla, who was intercepted by Israel, in the concentration in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
"The genocide in Palestine is still underway. I repeat, the genocide in Palestine is still ongoing. Israel continues to attack Gaza and the Palestinians every day, using humanitarian aid as a weapon of war. It was warned that 90 per cent of Gaza's population is suffering from malnutrition.
In recent years, during the genocidal escalation, the world has shown its true face by continuing to betray Palestinians day after day. Our leaders, our elected officials, who are supposed to represent us, are failing to do the minimum necessary to fulfill their legal duties and prevent genocide from taking place. They are showing that, each time, they put profits and colonial expansion above the well-being of people and the planet.
So it's up to us to get up. And therefore, I would like to express on behalf of all humanity, thank you Genoa. Thank you for being a beacon in these difficult times.
The Palestinians are asking everyone to stand up, to raise their voices, not to remain silent in the face of injustice, to put an end to our complicity. Because genocide is happening with the complicity of our governments. It is our institutions and companies with financial, military, social and political support that are carrying out this genocide.
So what we are doing here today is to put an end to our complicity, to send a clear signal to our governments: not in our names. When I was there and saw the videos of Genoa, of the port workers on strike, I cried a lot. Because he showed me that
The genocide in Palestine is by no means an isolated event. It is ultimately the result of a destructive capitalist and colonial imperialist system that puts profits above people. This system has made Palestinians go through the unimaginable: decades and decades of apartheid, of suffocating oppression and the escalating genocide of recent years.
Genocide has shown the ugliest face of humanity, but we are also showing the strongest face of humanity. I really believe that among the strongest things that exist is solidarity between the struggles. And that's why we have to keep up every day, raising our voices, not falling into the trap of apathy.
So I look forward to spending the day on strike with you and many, many more strikes and demonstrations to come."
